The question is asked a thousand times a day: Where did you catch them? Where are they biting? Where should I go fish? What is your hot spot?

If you are an angler, you know that location is everything. You cannot catch ‘em where they ain’t. Subsequently, every angler is always looking for THE spot, the hot bite.

Problem is, many are expecting easy answers when there is not one. Being a successful angler takes work, practice. Like many things, there are no shortcuts to success. Oh sure, there are resources, and you can learn in many ways and from many people. However, you should not expect to become a consistently successful angler effortlessly. You will have to earn it.

With that in mind, let me share something with you that a fly-fishing friend of mine recommended. It is a “how-to” video on finding good fishing spots. Yes, it will take some time to watch. Yes, specifically it refers to fly-fishing. Many of you will not take the time or you will ignore it because you do not fly fish. It is your time, your choice, but I do not care what species of fish you pursue or how you fish, you can learn a lot from watching this:

By the way, notice that YouTube channel, (Ventures Fly Company) has a lot of great instructional videos.  Again, even if you do not fly fish for trout, you can learn a lot there.

With what was mentioned in the video, let me recommend a couple of resources. I refer anglers to these ALL the time, every day: First, would be the annual Fishing Forecast. Believe me, I study that publication thoroughly, and plan my fishing trips accordingly.

Secondly, take a deeper look into our Nebraska waterbodies and the fishing you can expect in our Sampling Summaries.

Thanks, Eric for pointing the video out to me!  You are exactly right, “Good stuff”!
