I know some of you are going to think I am crazy, “We ain’t got ice yet.” Also know there are a few of you who are already checking ice conditions and I expect there are going to be more. Betting there will be some folks on the ice, fishing, in northern parts of Nebraska, this coming weekend.

So, no, it is not too early to address the topic of ice safety. Gotta be out in front of it!

Many things I blog about come around seasonally, every year. Have blogged numerous times about ice safety. It is a challenge to find fresh ways to talk about the same ole subjects. This time around, let me sum it up in a video I found recently. Take a couple of minutes, watch it!

In my opinion, THE tool you must have for ice safety is an ice chisel or spud bar. Jason talks about it in the video. The only thing I will add can be summed up in another video:

Target Walleye, How to Use a Spud Bar

You can be sure I will be on the ice fishing as soon as it is safe, and I will be on it absolutely as long as it is safe. However, YOU have to be careful and YOU have to be sure EVERY TIME you walk on the ice!
