I have to admit that most of the largemouth bass I catch are hooked incidentally while fishing for other predator fish.  However, during the mid-summer “dog days” when it can be a challenge to scratch a fish or two, my thoughts turn to warm-water fish like largemouth bass.  One of the reasons for that is it is just plain fun to watch any fish take a top-water bait.  Right now is a great time to be throwing top-waters for largemouths.

You better believe that largemouth bass are keyed in to frogs this time of year.  That is a classic predator/prey relationship and it is happening right now on many Nebraska waters.

Early morning and late evening will be prime time.  On the other hand, don’t be afraid to try catching ’em on top during the middle of the day too.  The results might surprise you!
