It’s Not Too Late (Tips For Late Season Hunting)

Unfortunately, it’s the time of year when many hunters start hanging up their gear for the season. Maybe they have already harvested game or are tired of trying to do so. It’s time to bundle up and take advantage of little to no hunting pressure, colder weather, a completed crop harvest, concentrated and …

Big Game Handgun Hunting Primer

Those that know me know that handgun hunting is my passion.  I would rather use a handgun than any other method of take for small and big game.   I think this started from days when my Dad would take me to the farm for an afternoon of plinking with our 22 LR pistols. We would also watch old westerns movies that made me dream about riding the range with a six-gun on my hip! Those days had a huge …

Sometimes Hunting Becomes Hunting with a Camera

OUTDOOR TIP: Always, and I mean always, take a camera you with you on any outdoor adventure to capture lasting images of the experience. Here’s my camera, nothing fancy, but it does the job fairly well. I took my camera with me yesterday afternoon to my buddy Steve’s farm in Saunders County, …

Our Deer Hunting Land: Thanks Granddad!

To those of us born and raised in Nebraska with longstanding family farming roots, the firearm deer hunting season represents a very special, unique tradition. Each season, I take the time to reflect what it must have been like for my great, great, great, great grandfather, James Murphy, a Union Army Veteran, as he saw a whitetail deer hidden in the prairie grass of the land he was about to claim in southeastern Nebraska after the war in the late …
