Updated 11-10-22 Yankee Hill Wildlife Management Area’s boat launch access will reopen Nov. 10 after several improvements were completed. Improvements include: erosion under the boat ramp has been repaired and rock riprap has been placed along both sides of it to prevent future erosion from occurring, rock riprap was added to the sides of each breakwater near the boat ramp, rock was added to the walking surface of each breakwater, concrete repairs were made to the restroom, a vegetation barrier …

Yankee Hill WMA access road project has begun

A project to move the west entrance to Yankee Hill Wildlife Management Area along Southwest 56th Street in Lancaster County has begun. The entrance to the road that leads to the boat ramp will be moved slightly north from its current location. It will connect with the old access road further inside the WMA. West entrance to Yankee Hill WMA has reopened

LINCOLN, Neb. – The west entrance to Yankee Hill Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Lancaster County has reopened to public access after the road was repaired. A culvert had collapsed and a large hole opened on the west entrance road to the Yankee Hill. The entrance will have to be closed temporarily in the future to facilitate a more permanent repair. The entrance road is located at W. Yankee Hill Road and SW 56th Street.

LINCOLN, Neb. – The west entrance to Yankee Hill Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Lancaster County is closed temporarily so that repairs can be made to the road. A culvert has collapsed and a large hole has opened up on the west entrance road to the Yankee Hill WMA boat ramp. Crews are assessing the damage and the extent of repairs needed. LINCOLN, Neb. – The west entrance to Yankee Hill Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Lancaster County has reopened now that high water has receded. Heavy rains last week had flooded the WMA’s entrance road at W. Yankee Hill Road and SW 56th St. Caution should be used following heavy rains when trying to access any WMA or other property of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in southeast Nebraska because of potentially dangerous water conditions in low-lying areas.

Denton Man and His Son Injured in Hunting Incident

LINCOLN, Neb. – A Denton man and his son were injured in a hunting incident Sept. 1 at Yankee Hill Wildlife Management Area in Lancaster County. Francisco Barbosa Almazan, 27, and his 8-year-old son were hurt while hunting doves. Both took pellets to the face from the shotgun of 23-year-old Arturo Garcia of Omaha, who was hunting in the same area. Garcia swung on a dove, shot, and struck the victims.
