Snuck Out. . .

Yes, I know the correct grammar is “sneaked out” but that just does not sound right to me.  Consider “Snuck Out” to be my redneck version, and that is exactly what I did. . . . March has been a busy month for me.  I worked a couple of weekends finishing up sport and boat shows for the spring, but as  I promised you in a blog post a couple of weeks ago, I would get on the water when …

It’s a Wrap

Well it finally happened, looks like we are done ice-fishing for the year.  The last day I walk off the ice is one of the saddest days of the year for me. But it was a great ice season!  My partners and I had almost 3 full months on the ice this winter–the way it should be.  We were drilling holes all the way up through last weekend. So, consider this as my last ice report for this year; let …

Still On

I am fully aware that spring will some day come, and that day is getting closer all the time.  But until then, I am on the ice!  Last fall I transitioned from fishing open water to being on the ice within a couple of weeks.  I am betting I make the reverse transition this spring. I do not have a lot of pictures to show or reports to share, just a quick update on what I have been doing, a …

Holiday Adventure Report

A few weeks ago I blogged about celebrating my New Year of fishing by being on the ice by mid-December, Happy New Year!  I also warned you at that time that I would be “out” a lot over the coming weeks with the holiday season and with my Dad’s health.  Well, those few weeks are past and it is time to show a few pictures and let you know that our Nebraska Ice-Fishing season is in full swing.  “It is …

Larger Walleye, Northern Pike Stocked in Many Nebraska Waters

LINCOLN, Neb. – While many anglers associate October with rainbow trout stocking in Nebraska, other fish are being stocked, as well. The Calamus and North Platte fish hatcheries have raised 7- to 9-inch walleye and 12-inch northern pike. These species are typically stocked at fingerling size, but they were grown to an advanced size to increase chances of survival. Advanced walleyes have been stocked in Branched Oak Reservoir, Buckskin Hills Lake, Cottonmill Lake, Holmes Lake, Leigh Lake, Maskenthine Reservoir, Morman …

Adventure Report, August 28, 2013

Got a fishing report to give you, but let me give a little background to the story.  Back in the mid-1990’s I worked for a couple of years in our newly-established fisheries management office in south-central Nebraska.  That region included much of the the Tri-County canal and reservoirs on that canal.  In the years I was there we were not able to spend much time on the canal reservoirs, but from what we knew of the high flow-through rates and …

Who Needs Live Bait?

I will be the first one to tell you that no baits or lures are magic, nothing catches fish all the time.  And, I will tell you that every bait or lure every made will catch fish if used at the right place and the right time.  The challenge is knowing the right bait for the right place and right time.  Presentation theory and selecting the right baits for the right time and place is a whole topic worthy of …

Adventure Report, June 5, 2013

A couple of months ago I warned that I would be “out of the office” as much as possible.  Well, I have been; have enjoyed this spring immensely.  In fact I have enjoyed it so much that I have not given a fishing report recently.  Time to get caught up. . . . Lewis & Clark To start, I have to go back a couple weeks, back before the Memorial Day holiday.  Some of the Nebraska Walleye Association folks, http://www.nebraskawalleye.com/ …
