LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters may begin purchasing fall turkey permits Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. Central Time. Permits will be available at OutdoorNebraska.org and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission permitting offices. A fall turkey permit is valid statewide and allows a hunter to harvest two turkeys of either sex with a shotgun or archery equipment. Each hunter may have up to two permits. Conditions for upland birds are better than in recent years, and pheasant and quail abundance in Nebraska this year is higher than the five-year average over most of the state. According to survey results, spring turkey hunters enjoyed a high rate of success in Nebraska in 2016. LINCOLN – Gov. Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation on April 6 declaring that Nebraska is the Best Turkey Hunting Destination in the United States. The governor signed the proclamation in a ceremony at the Nebraska Capitol and presented it to Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Director Jim Douglas and District 3 Commissioner Mick Jensen of Blair (northeastern Nebraska). LINCOLN – Spring turkey hunting permits will be available from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission starting at 1 p.m. Central Time on Jan. 11. The 2016 permit prices, including issuing fee, are: resident turkey, $25; nonresident turkey, $97; resident landowner, $13.50; nonresident landowner, $49.50; and resident and nonresident youth turkey, $7.
