I will tell you that the days of building big reservoirs are likely long past.  However, some relatively small reservoirs will continue to be built in Nebraska.  Most of them built by Natural Resource Districts (NRDs).  In most cases these projects are in urban areas to provide flood control and perhaps some recreation.  Fortunately, we, the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission Fisheries Division often are involved in the design and construction of these reservoirs.  Our assistance is provided for water …

Duck Creek

Many of you in southeast Nebraska have been looking forward to the opening of a new reservoir, Duck Creek, located near Peru.  Specifically the reservoir was labeled as Duck Creek #12, but it looks like the Nemaha Natural Resource District is going to call it Duck Creek Recreation Area. If you look close at the 2015 Fishing Guide, the list of public fishing areas in the back, southeast region, you will find this line:  Duck Creek #12 (Nemaha County)–65 acres, 3.5 W, 1 N of Peru.  Dam scheduled to be built 2015-2016.  I am betting most have not seen that line, have not thought anything about it.  But, there is a new reservoir being built in southeast Nebraska! It has been long-awaited, but if you go to the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resource District’s website you will find this news!
