New watercraft cleaning station available at Lewis and Clark’s Weigand Marina

LINCOLN, Neb. – A waterless boat cleaning station recently was installed at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area’s Weigand Marina. Lewis and Clark Lake is infested with zebra mussels and other aquatic invasive species. This new equipment, called a CD3 cleaning station, allows boaters to clean, drain and dry their crafts upon leaving the lake to prevent the spread of invasives to other water bodies. Sutherland team wins high school bass tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Sutherland team of brothers Hunter and Jaron Cooper won the Bass Federation – Student Angler Federation Nebraska High School Bass Tournament Championship at Lewis and Clark Lake’s Weigand Marina on July 21. The team, coached by Kent Priel, caught five fish weighing a total of 12 pounds, 4 ounces. A Star City Anglers team from Wahoo took second place. Colton Kelle of Beatrice and McKael Gollin of Firth caught five fish weighing 9 pounds, 13 ounces. …

Zebra Mussel Populations in Lewis and Clark Lake and Missouri River Increasing

LINCOLN – Adult zebra mussels are established along the entire length of the Missouri River in Nebraska, according to recent field inspections conducted by Nebraska Game and Parks Commission aquatic invasive species technicians. In addition to the presence of these invasive mussels in the river from Gavins Point Dam downstream to the Kansas border, the zebra mussel population in Lewis and Clark Lake has moved farther west on the Nebraska side. LINCOLN – Cooperation from boaters and anglers is urgently needed to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species following the discovery of zebra mussels in Lewis and Clark Lake in northeast Nebraska.
