Lake Wanahoo SRA monarch habitat tour is Sept. 9

LINCOLN, Neb. – Families are invited to a monarch butterfly habitat tour Sept. 9 at Lake Wanahoo State Recreation Area in Saunders County. The free event is from 1-3 p.m. at the day use area on the east side of the lake. Following a presentation about the decline of monarchs and the type of habitats they need to survive, butterflies will be captured, tagged and released. Registration deadline extended for women’s kayaking workshop

LINCOLN, Neb. – Openings are still available in the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Program’s beginning kayak workshop July 21 at Lake Wanahoo State Recreation Area. The workshop is for women age 16 or older who want to learn the basics of kayaking. Kayak, paddle and life jacket will be provided. Topics will include skills, safety, entering and exiting a kayak, launching and docking, and equipment. The registration deadline has been extended to July 17. Lake Wanahoo West Entrance Temporarily Closed

LINCOLN – The west entrance to Lake Wanahoo State Recreation Area near Wahoo will be closed to public access beginning on Nov. 18 while the entrance road to the park is paved. During this time, the campground and boat ramp will also be closed for public use. The paving project is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
