Birthday Bird

P5240009

A week or two ago, I referred to my son’s adventures this spring being more notable than mine.  I have shared some of them with you.  With all the coronavirus “stuff” we have stayed close to home for weeks, months, but finally ventured out to celebrate my son’s birthday.  As I always tell you, we spend lots of time with family, and while doing that work in some time on the water and in the field.  This trip we did …

The Usual

PB290013

If you have been following my blog for any time, you know I often make a trip “out west” over the Thanksgiving holiday.  Those trips include a lot of feasting and family time, but usually some hunting and late fall fishing too!  This year was no exception, time to give you a quick report. I like to chase a few pheasants over the Thanksgiving weekend.  No, my hunting partners and I usually do not shoot a lot.  We do at …

National Hunting and Fishing Day

header

Tomorrow, September 29, is National Hunting and Fishing Day.  Governor Ricketts signed a proclamation this week recognizing that here in Nebraska. I have always thought that a national hunting and fishing day is especially appropriate for Nebraska because we have some great opportunities for a variety of fish and game.  We are the mixed bag capital!  Fall is a great time to “combo up” and do both, hunt and fish. Need an example?  One of my co-workers here in our …

Adventure Report: Thanksgiving Combo

BigTroutCrop

Took an extra day off over the long Thanksgiving holiday and missed the weather and bad roads coming home.  Need to catch up with another blog post. . . . I “called my shot” a bit last week expecting that I would spend some time both hunting and fishing with family over the long weekend.  We feasted, played games, enjoyed the time together and yes, hunted and fished. It always feels good to go for a little walk after the …

Happy Thanksgiving!

IMG_1400

Like many of you, I will be heading out the door for “grandmother’s house” for a weekend of feasting and family.  I will also try to sneak away to walk off some of the feasting and see if I might rustle up a few of these: The extended Thanksgiving weekend is also a great time to combo up–some late fall fishing along with hunting.  Maybe I can dry off a few of these: Or some of these, have to see …

Combodacious, Late Fall 2017

IMG_1395

I am always up on a soap-box promoting the diversity of fish & wildlife, hunting and fishing opportunities we have in Nebraska.  With no closed season for fishing and long hunting seasons for a variety of species, it is very possible, and double the fun, to combine the activities!  Fall is one of the best times to do that. Hunting, fishing, trapping, I love them all and often feel like I have so much to do and so little time.  …

Happy Thanksgiving, 2017

RBTcropped

Want to get one more blog post up before I walk out the door for “grandma’s house”.  We will spend lots of time feasting with family, will likely enjoy some time together on the water and in the field. Doesn’t that pretty much sum up what this holiday is all about?  While you and your’s spend time doing the same things, I hope it is a reminder to us all. . . we have A LOT to be thankful for! …

Adventure Report, Thanksgiving 2015

If you have followed my blog for awhile, you might remember that my family and I usually spend the long Thanksgiving weekend back home “out west”.  We spend lots of time with family, do a lot of feasting, game-playing and laughing, but also slip out to enjoy some time on the water and in the field while we are there.  The Thanksgiving weekend is a great time for us to combo up on both hunting and fishing, and this year …

Thanksgiving Pheasout

My family and I got back “out west” for a long Thanksgiving weekend and we enjoyed every minute of it.  Yes, we spent a lot of time with family and in feasting, but we managed to slip outdoors a bit too. . . . You probably already have heard me tout the wide variety of hunting and fishing opportunities we have in Nebraska.  We ARE the mixed-bag capital of the world.  I love all of it, all of the hunting, fishing …
