“Trashellunge” Revisited

I hate “litter bugs”.  If I see another styrofoam worm container on the shoreline of one of my fishing spots, I am going to scream!  I have used the word “pig” before to describe folks who discard all manner of trash in our environment and especially around our public fishing areas.  I probably should not call ’em “pigs” because that is offensive to real pigs.  If I had my way, discarding trash of any kind on our public hunting and …

Whiney Girlfriend

This has been floating around the internet again, I might as well post it here too.  You might have already seen it, but it is so funny.  Anyway, this stupid commercial comes from Nitro Boats, http://www.nitro.com/ . You gotta admit, her outfit did match the boat! Have a great weekend, hope you get outdoors and get a little peace and quiet.

Lighten Up

Wow, if there is anything I have learned in the past couple of weeks it is that people’s humors are low.  I am pretty sure that has something to do with this being a good, long winter. Don’t look now, I have bad news–most of this next week ain’t gonna be much better. I know folks would be much better off if they just gave in and learned to ice fish. Seriously, I know the forecast is cold, snowy, and …

Tragedy

If you are like me and my family, you are mesmerized by the Olympics.  Yep, we are at home watching the winter Olympics on TV pretty much every evening.  Sure, once every two years we take interest in sporting events that we know nothing about, nor care about, but the whole Olympic competition, whether it is summer or winter, is just riveting.  I love it.  When the winter Olympics roll around I am all for an event that celebrates snow …

Ice Auger Rodeo

These videos have been on the internet for awhile, but I just recently found them and thought they were hilarious.  Apparently, this is what happens after too long spent on the ice not catching fish (I suspect some “adult beverages” were likely involved too). By the way, do not even think of doing this with my auger.  That cannot be good on ice augers. But if you want to fire one up and give a demonstration, I might watch. Unless …

Whaling

It has come to my attention that various sites in the cybersphere are reporting that Nebraska has a law on the books prohibiting the capture of whales by fishing, Stupid Laws, Nebraska. Oh really? Try as I might, I cannot cite you “chapter and verse” where that law is in writing.  You know, “Chapter 66.4, page 32, column A, section C14, paragraph 12, line 7 of the Nebraska Legislative Code, 1867, states that no members of the Order Cetacea may …

Badger Chips

There are 1,442,567,038 Geomys bursarius, plains pocket gophers, in the Nebraska sandhills. How do I know that?  I came to that conclusion on a muzzleloader deer hunt with my son and cousin a few years back. In between walking and still-hunting, we would bounce along on sandhills trails from one range of hills to another.  While doing that one cannot help but notice the incredible amount of gopher mounds in those hills.  We bounced over exactly 1.3% of those gopher mounds on …

Where I have been. . . .

Wanna know where I have been ice-fishing? I will show you exactly where. . . right here. As always, even on the ice, all of my best fishing spots are being patrolled by ticks, mosquitoes, itch-mites, owls, bears, rattlesnakes, wild hogs, sasquatch and mountain loins. Stay away, it ain’t worth your risk! I will give you a report when I can.

The Perfect Gift

My wife loves candles.  There are several occasions when she might receive candles as gifts.  Christmas is certainly one of those times, and this year I believe I found the perfect scented candle! I hope she likes it! GULP! Have a great weekend!

Won’t be long now!

I know I have posted this video on my blog before, probably several times.  Too bad.  For some reason this gets stuck in my head this time of year, might as well be stuck in yours too. Sorry. I doubt that I get on the ice this weekend, and I am not sure it will be safe quite yet (The Ice Man Cometh), but I believe we are very close.  I am betting I am hearing that beautiful sound of …
