Living History Scheduled for July 5-6 at Fort Atkinson SHP

LINCOLN – The celebration of Independence Day at an 1820s military post will be depicted at Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park (SHP) on July 5-6. LINCOLN – Life at an 1820s military post will be depicted at Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park on May 3-4. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., volunteers will demonstrate period trades, such as blacksmithing, carpentry, tinsmithing and coopering, as well as crafts such as quilting, spinning and weaving. Park Events Reinstated at Fort Atkinson, Alexandria; Sandy Channel and Long Pine will Remain Open

LINCOLN, Neb. – Communities in Nebraska continue to rally around their state park areas to reinstate events and delay temporary closures. The Candlelight Tour on Nov. 2 is back on the calendar at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park (SHP) near Fort Calhoun. Alexandria State Recreation Area (SRA) near Fairbury will remain open through Oct. 20 to accommodate a Halloween event Oct. 18-19. Fort Atkinson to Re-enact July 4th Celebration

LINCOLN, Neb. – Fort Atkinson State Historical Park on July 6-7 will re-enact an 1820s civilian and military July 4th celebration. Watch as the military salutes the states and reads the declaration, and civilians churn butter, spin and weave and the blacksmith and tinsmith work at the armorer shop.
