Fort Atkinson event to include Air Force flyover, Native American demonstrations

LINCOLN, Neb. – Visitors to Fort Atkinson State Historical Park in Fort Calhoun have long enjoyed the park’s rich tradition of living history. During an Aug. 4-5 event, visitors also will get to see something new for the park: an Air Force flyover and Native American dancers. LINCOLN, Neb. – The War of 1812 and its connection to Fort Atkinson State Historical Park will be the theme of a living history event June 2-3. Two displays will be available at the Harold W. Fort Atkinson SHP residence to be burned March 3

LINCOLN, Neb. – Fort Atkinson State Historical Park will be closed to all vehicle traffic while an old residence at the park is burned March 3. The Fort Calhoun Fire Department will burn down the structure as a training exercise. The alternate date for the burn is March 4. Rubble left following the burn will be hauled off site to a licensed landfill. The house is in poor condition and has been cleared for disposal.

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host an open house in Fort Calhoun on May 18 to take public input on the design charrette for Fort Atkinson State Historical Park.
