“Open Letter to My. . .”

PIKElog2

Stumbled across this on the interwebs this week.  It is corny, but I loved it.  Before I quote it, here is where you can see the “original”:  Ordinary Outdoorsman. https://www.ordinaryoutdoorsman.com/an-open-letter-to-my-old-fishing-reel/?utm_content=bufferd7d8f&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer The only thing I would have to change about that little “ditty” is the reel–gotta be one of my beloved “cream and green” Zebco Cardinal 4’s!  Oh, and I ain’t retiring it. Back in my high school days I saved my pennies to buy my first quality spinning reel.  I …

“It’s Saturday”

DSCN6208

I do not drink, do not condone the drinking of alcoholic beverages. But, this commercial is hilarious! “Real good, Steve.  Real good.” I don’t know about you, but the fish call me at work ALL the time. And not just on Saturdays! Don’t be Steve.  GO FISH! Gotta go, my phone’s ringing!

Doodling

Doodles

You can go back to notebooks I had in high school and find a variety of fish-related doodles scattered over the pages.  The more boring the class, the more doodles. Any former professors or teachers that might be reading this blog post:  Of course none of those doodles were from any of your classes, I was never bored in your classes. (Ha) I have never grown up.  I still do the same thing when I am stuck in boring meetings. …

Big Fish from the Sky!

DSCN6391

This week has been the week after the Super Bowl.  The game was fantastic, certainly one of the best ever, so there has been a lot of talk about actual football.  In addition to that, and after many Super Bowl games, there is as much talk about the commercials as the actual game.  So, on the topic of TV commercials, it has been awhile since I posted a good fishing commercial.  Here is one I saw recently that I kinda …

Busiest Time of Year

DSCN7177

If you are like me, your calendar is full of “stuff” to do this time of year.  I am trying get stuff finished up here at the office so I can get outta here so I can get other “stuff” done at home.  Ah, the holidays, don’t ya love ’em? Our family has been a little later with the holiday illumination this year; we have been waiting for my daughter to get home from college.  She’s home now, think I …

“Where didya catchit?”

muskiea

You know what they say, “All fishermen are liars except you and me, and sometimes I wonder about you.” Yep, you have to ask the right questions, but even then we can be really vague with our answers: Seriously, the mental approach to fishing fascinates me.  I have found it very interesting that some of the best professional and tournament anglers intentionally avoid getting fishing reports from a body of water they intend to fish.  In fact some of the …

Nasty Rumors

daryl-senior1

This ole “inter-webby” thing is a great tool for information and communication.  Where would we be without it? Unfortunately, it is also a great source of misinformation and rumors.  You know what they say, “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet”! Recently, I have become aware of a particularly nasty rumor that has been making the rounds: I categorically deny that this is a picture of me at my senior prom! Everyone knows I would have much preferred a …

Rather Be Fishing

DSCN0250

I guess this past weekend was some masterful golf tournament or something like that.  I don’t know much about golfing; always figured it was for folks who did not fish.  Looks to me like well-known professional golfers playing in big tournaments would still rather be fishing. Water must have been pretty warm, or at least it better have been, he was jigging too fast for cold water. That “rod” was really stiff.  I prefer something with a little more action …

Don’t Laugh!

DSCN2738

By the look of the calendar, today is April 1, “April Fools Day”.  I would love to put an April Fools prank here on my blog, but I do not dare.  Once upon a time, I posted a spoof about an Olympic figure skater falling through the ice ON AN ICE RINK and that did not turn out well for her.  If she had just used her spud bar she would have been fine.  I know of another spoof involving …
