Boating Safety Courses Offered Throughout Nebraska

LINCOLN – Nebraskans preparing for a summer of boating fun should be aware of the state’s boater education requirements. State law requires that any motorboat operator, including personal watercraft operators, born after Dec. 31, 1985, complete a boating safety course. Those operators also must be in possession of a course certificate when operating the boat. Persons must be at least 14 years of age to operate a motorboat or personal watercraft in Nebraska. Nebraska Reports No Boating-Related Deaths in 2013

LINCOLN – There were no boating-related deaths in Nebraska in 2013. The state had not gone without at least one fatality in a year since it began tracking boating accidents in 1965, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The number of reported boating accidents also decreased, from 44 in 2012 to 31 in 2013. “That’s what diligent law enforcement, coupled by expanded, excellent boating safety education, can do,” said Herb Angell, Nebraska’s boating law administrator.
