Commission to consider bighorn sheep season at meeting in North Platte

LINCOLN – Nebraska residents may apply for a bighorn sheep lottery permit through Aug. 5. One lottery permit will be issued in 2016. Residents who will be at least 12 years of age by the opening day of the bighorn sheep season may apply. Residents may apply once per calendar year and may receive one permit per lifetime. Bighorn Sheep Lottery Permit Applications Begin April 18

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will accept applications for a 2016 bighorn sheep lottery permit beginning April 18. Only Nebraska residents are eligible. The application period ends Aug. 5, and the permit, the only one authorized for 2016, will be drawn Aug. 18. Applications must be accompanied by a $25 nonrefundable application fee. Apply at a Nebraska Game and Parks office or at OutdoorNebraska.org. The 2016 bighorn sheep season is Nov. 29 – Dec. 22.

Game and Parks Relocates 26 Bighorns from Wildcat Hills to Pine Ridge

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission on Feb. 19 relocated 26 bighorn sheep from the Wildcat Hills to supplement two herds in the Pine Ridge. Game and Parks contracted a helicopter crew to capture the sheep at the Hubbard Gap region of the Wildcat Hills. Agency staff moved the sheep via livestock trailers to Fort Robinson State Park and Bighorn Wildlife Management Area, to the west and east of Crawford, respectively.
