Fish Habitat Update 2016

Much to the delight of boat anglers who haven’t been on the water there since 2011, Burchard Lake, one of southeastern Nebraska’s top fisheries, is again open for business following a drawdown for an Aquatic Habitat Program project that was extended by drought. The 8-foot drawdown of the 26-foot deep, 150-acre reservoir in Pawnee County began in 2012 to replace the 60-plus-year-old, leaking outlet structure. LINCOLN – Another summer of family fishing fun is scheduled with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s series of Family Fishing Events. Family Fishing Events provide opportunities for people of all ages who have never fished or have not fished in years to learn and enjoy the activity. Lake Ogallala Modern Campground to Close Temporarily for Upgrades

LINCOLN – The modern campground at Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area (SRA) will be temporarily closed to the public starting April 8 for installation of new electrical pedestals. During the closure, 44 new electrical pedestals will be installed in the northern half of the campground. The upgrade will replace the existing pedestals, which were installed in the 1980s. The southern half of the campground was upgraded in 2012. Construction should take between two and three weeks. The campground will reopen …

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln have scheduled training so that individuals may become certified master naturalists. The Nebraska Master Naturalist Program is an adult education program focused on providing volunteers with hands-on experiences in Nebraska’s natural resources. Registration Open for Indian Cave’s Mushroom Run

LINCOLN – Registration is open for runners to enter the Mushroom Run at Indian Cave State Park. The run will be held in conjunction with the park’s annual Outdoor Adventure on April 30.
