Commission to accept volunteer help in cleanup of parks

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is grateful for the outpouring of offers from volunteers to help with cleanup efforts at state parks, wildlife management areas and trails damaged by the recent catastrophic flooding. Game and Parks continues to assess damage to state park system following historic flooding

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission continues to assess damage from recent flooding at parks and wildlife management areas throughout the state. Some state parks, state historical parks, state recreation areas and wildlife management areas located along rivers and streams in eastern and central Nebraska experienced flooded roads, campgrounds and buildings during the historic and catastrophic flooding of the past week. LINCOLN, Neb. – Spring rainbow trout stocking is beginning this week at five south-central Nebraska locations, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The Calamus State Fish Hatchery will stock 10-inch trout March 20 at the following locations: Fort Kearny State Recreation Area Lake No. 6, Kearney, 600 trout; Windmill State Recreation Area Lake No. 2, Gibbon, 600; Holdrege City Lake, 1,000; Heartwell Park Lake, Hastings, 450; and Such’s Lake, Grand Island, 650. Public advised to check conditions when planning a park visit

LINCOLN, Neb. – Warmer temperatures have arrived in parts of Nebraska, but those considering a trip to a state park or recreation area should call ahead before planning a visit. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and University of Nebraska-Lincoln invite the public to attend a Salamander Search Citizen Science Workshop on April 20 at Indian Cave State Park. UNL herpetologist Dennis Ferraro will give a presentation on finding, identifying and recording salamander sightings and contributing that information to this citizen science project. Registration Open for Indian Cave’s Mushroom Run

LINCOLN, Neb. – Registration is open for runners to enter the Mushroom Run at Indian Cave State Park. The run will be held in conjunction with the park’s annual Outdoor Adventure on April 27. LINCOLN, Neb. – A Lincoln engineering firm has won an award for its work on a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission project at Platte River State Park. JEO Consulting Group of Lincoln received a Water Resources Merit Award in the annual American Council of Engineering Companies Nebraska (ACEC) awards program for its work on improvements at Jenny Newman Lake.
