Mahoney State Park restaurant closes

LINCOLN, Neb. — Caddy’s Parkside Grill at the Peter Kiewit Lodge is closing its doors after two years of providing food service to guests at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park. “This situation is unfortunate and is precipitated in part by diminished demand for sit-in dining options in conjunction with the present and growing COVID pandemic trends,” said Jim Swenson, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Parks Division administrator. Trenton man injured in Swanson Reservoir boating accident

LINCOLN, Neb. – A 46-year-old Trenton man was hospitalized with injuries following a boating accident Nov. 19 on Swanson Reservoir in Hitchcock County. Sometime in the afternoon, the victim, the sole occupant other than a dog, apparently was ejected from his boat. The running boat began circling. Another boater rescued the man from the water and took him to the boat ramp to be treated by emergency personnel. The victim, who sustained injuries from the propeller, was flown by helicopter …

The decision to delay the print date was made after a recent change to Instagram’s hashtag search feature limited the number of viewable contest entries. Mountain lion observed on video in Scottsbluff

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has confirmed a mountain lion was observed on video crossing a yard on the west side of Scottsbluff in the early morning on Nov. 19. The video was taken from a doorbell camera. Mountain lions that are found within city limits will be euthanized if it can safely be done, in accordance with the Commission’s Mountain Lion Response Plan. Fort Atkinson State Historical Park awarded Helmsley grant for revitalization projects

LINCOLN, Neb. — A new grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust worth nearly $500,000 will assist Fort Atkinson State Historical Park in two revitalization projects. The two-pronged grant for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission property provides: $220,000 for the development of new, interactive museum exhibits at the Harold W. Andersen Visitor Center on the park grounds, and $272,500 for the replacement of logs in the barrack walls, an ongoing preservation project. The Fort Atkinson …

Game and Parks temporarily closes Lincoln office to walk-up service

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has temporarily closed its Lincoln headquarters to walk-up customer service in an effort to protect its staff and the public from a potential COVID-19 spread. The public still can obtain customer service by calling 402-471-0641 and permits can be purchased at OutdoorNebraska.org. The closure is expected to last until Nov. 16, with a possible extension. No other Game and Parks offices are affected by the closure.
