Space Still Remains for Halsey BOW

LINCOLN – Space still remains in this year’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program – the annual Sandhills retreat that teaches women of all ages various outdoor skills. The workshop is Oct. 3-5 at the national forest near Halsey. BOW is a program designed to encourage women to become active participants in the outdoors, including activities related to hunting, camping, boating, hiking and fishing. Dove Hunting Season Just Around Corner

LINCOLN – Dove hunting season begins soon and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has some reminders for those hunters, as well as recommendations for areas to hunt. Doves may be hunted statewide. The season is Sept. 1-Oct. 30, with daily bag and possession limits of 15 and 30, respectively. Bag limits are for mourning, white-winged and Eurasian collared doves in aggregate. Fish Salvage Set for Lake Yankton in Preparation for Fish Renovation

LINCOLN – An upcoming renovation project at Lake Yankton in Cedar County will result in all fish being eliminated on Sept. 10. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has authorized fish salvage there Aug. 20 through Sept. 8. The water level at the lake is down four feet and dropping. Game and Parks to Debut Outdoor Encounter at Nebraska State Fair

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will debut a state-of-the art interactive outdoor experience – Outdoor Encounter – at the 2014 Nebraska State Fair. The Outdoor Encounter includes an aquarium, archery range and shooting gallery. The Outdoor Encounter, housed in the new Nebraska Building, includes a 5,900-gallon aquarium stocked with more than 150 fish commonly found in Nebraska. Rat and Beaver Lakes to Close Temporarily for Aquatic Habitat Project

LINCOLN – Rat and Beaver Lakes in Cherry County will be temporarily closed to the public next month while a chemical renovation of the lakes takes place as part of an aquatic habitat project. Gifford Point Permit Application Period to Close Aug. 15

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds deer hunters that the access permit application period for Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area (WMA) closes Aug. 15. As many as 200 permits will be issued for Gifford Point WMA. Hunters must have at least one of the following valid deer permits to be eligible for an access permit: statewide archery, muzzleloader, youth or antlerless only Season Choice Wahoo. Game and Parks, UNL to Survey Hunters About Public Land Use in Nebraska

LINCOLN – This fall the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Nebraska will begin a three-year survey of hunters who use public lands in Nebraska. LINCOLN – Archery deer hunting season opens Sept. 1 in Nebraska. The early opener was requested by archery hunters to allow hunting of deer when bucks are still in velvet. Lake Yankton Fishery Renovation Set to Begin

LINCOLN – A renovation of the existing fish population in Lake Yankton, located below Gavins Point Dam, is set to occur on Sept. 10. The project includes drawing Lake Yankton’s water level down four feet and applying the chemical rotenone to eliminate the fish population. Record Missouri River flooding in 2011 allowed undesirable fish species to enter the lake.
