Moose Seen in Panhandle

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission officials are reporting that a moose has been spotted numerous times by residents in the North Platte River Valley in the Panhandle. The confirmed sightings suggest that the moose has been in the region for several weeks and was last reported in Morrill County. Moose are not common in Nebraska, but are occasionally spotted in the western part of the state. Wildlife biologists expect that the moose wandered into the state from Wyoming. Officials are …

Several Family Fishing Fundamentals Courses Cancelled at SCC

LINCOLN – Southeast Community College’s family Fishing Fundamentals course has been cancelled in Auburn, York, Plattsmouth and Nebraska City; however, the Lincoln classes remain on the schedule. The college is offering the course to provide anglers with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to begin fishing. Archery Paddlefish Applications Accepted Through April 14

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is accepting archery paddlefish permit applications through April 14 for the July 11-Aug. 9 season. Archery paddlefish permits are issued using a preference system. An applicant will receive a point if he or she is unsuccessful in being awarded a permit. Any person who does not apply at least once during five consecutive years will lose all accumulated points. Permits remaining following the first drawing will be sold on a first-come basis …

Kids Fishing Clinic at Lewis and Clark Lake SRA

Children and parents are invited to participate in the Crofton Kids Fishing Clinic on April 25, 4-5 p.m. The clinic will be held at Lewis and Clark Lake State Recreation Area, Weigand Area, near Crofton. Clinic is limited to 50 children (under 16 years old). Water Flowing to Chadron State Park Pond

Water has begun flowing into the Chadron State Park pond, signifying that the renovation of the two-acre lagoon is nearing completion. Workers from Fuller Construction and park employees began diverting water Thursday morning from nearby Chadron Creek. The pond is expected to fill within 15-20 days, making it ready for fishing and paddle-boating during the summer tourism season. LINCOLN – Joseph Brinkhoff of Mater Dei Academy in Omaha had the day’s high score of 288 points in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament in Lincoln on March 28. Game and Parks Commission to begin Walleye Egg Collection

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission plans to begin collecting adult, spawning walleyes in late March. The Commission plans to collect approximately 76 million eggs to meet the 2015 stocking requests.
