Lake Ogallala Modern Campground to Close Temporarily for Upgrades

LINCOLN – The modern campground at Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area (SRA) will be temporarily closed to the public starting April 8 for installation of new electrical pedestals. During the closure, 44 new electrical pedestals will be installed in the northern half of the campground. The upgrade will replace the existing pedestals, which were installed in the 1980s. The southern half of the campground was upgraded in 2012. Construction should take between two and three weeks. The campground will reopen …

Wilkinson WMA Partially Closed to Public to Protect Whooping Cranes

LINCOLN – Wilkinson Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Platte County has been partially closed to the public to protect three endangered whooping cranes using the area. The cranes have been present since March 25. The partial closure of the WMA involves the eastern third of the property, the section between 280th Avenue and U.S. Highway 81. LINCOLN – There still is time for Nebraskans to contribute to wildlife and habitat conservation. Line 42 on 2015 state income tax Form 1040N allows individuals to donate all or a part of their tax refund to the Nebraska Wildlife Conservation Fund, which focuses on saving Nebraska’s wildlife and wild places. Bassway Strip WMA Closed to Target Shooting

LINCOLN – Bassway Strip Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Buffalo County has been closed to target shooting effective immediately. The area has been closed because of safety concerns for neighboring landowners and area users, as well as persistent shooting-related litter accumulation. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is working to develop other target shooting opportunities in a more safe and controlled environment. Target shooting is permitted on WMAs unless restricted or prohibited by posted signs or by special area regulations.

LINCOLN – A free workshop discussing lake and pond management, scheduled for March 23 in Norfolk, has been postponed due to the weather. It has been rescheduled for April 26. The workshop, to begin at 6 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center, 601 E. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission encourages the public to report whooping crane sightings. Lewis Sets Record High Score at State NASP Tournament

LINCOLN – Precious Lewis of Omaha’s Mater Dei Academy had the high overall score in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament on March 19 at Speedway Sporting Village in Lincoln. Lewis scored 288 out of a possible 300 points to set a meet record for a female archer. Archers shot 15 arrows at targets from 10 meters and 15 arrows from 15 meters.
