Lincoln Pius’ Alberts wins 16-yard title at Cornhusker Trapshoot

DONIPHAN, Neb. – Friday’s senior high school 16-yard competition in the 48th Cornhusker Trapshoot was just a warmup for the top two finishers. In the end, Trevin Alberts of Lincoln Pius X came out on top. Alberts broke all 75 of his targets, then hit 174 of 175 targets to survive nine challengers in a shoot-off to win the title. Steuben is junior high champion at Cornhusker Trapshoot

DONIPHAN, Neb. – Thursday was a two-trophy day for Brock Steuben. He was the overall individual champion and was part of the winning 4-H team during the junior high competition in the 48th Cornhusker Trapshoot. Steuben, of Blue River 4-H, hit 98 of 100 targets at 16 yards, and then defeated Lincoln Lux Middle School’s Dalton Jirsa, who also shot 98, in a shoot-off. Dump station to temporarily close at Niobrara State Park

LINCOLN, Neb. – The dump station at Niobrara State Park will be unavailable from May 8-18, 2017.  During that time, compression concrete testing will take place at the dump station site. Buckskin Hills WMA boat ramp temporarily closed for replacement

LINCOLN, Neb. – The boat ramp at Buckskin Hills Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is closed temporarily through the remainder of May. The existing boat ramp will be replaced and concrete parking pads will be added by the end of the month. Anglers are encouraged to use Powder Creek Reservoir in Dixon County, Chalkrock Lake WMA in Cedar County, or Kramper Lake in Dakota County as alternatives until construction is complete. Capitol’s peregrine falcons abandon eggs

LINCOLN, Neb. — The peregrine falcon pair atop the Capitol has abandoned their recently-laid clutch of five eggs. The male, 19/K, and female, Alley, apparently remain present at the Capitol but have not been seen in their nest box — or more importantly, on their eggs — since the morning of Sunday, April 30. LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska’s Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program continues to grow, as 2016 saw a 23 percent increase in the number of deer donated. Established in 2012 by the Nebraska Legislature, HHH is a program that provides ground venison to Nebraskans in need. It allows hunters to donate whole field-dressed deer at participating meat processors, food pantries and other charitable organizations. In 2016, a record 528 hunters participated, and Nebraskans received more than 28,000 pounds of venison. The …
