LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host a public meeting to gather input on hunting at Summit Lake State Recreation Area in Burt County on May 15. Currently, approximately 175 acres of the 535-acre area are open to hunting annually beginning the Tuesday after Labor Day. Rifle deer hunting also is permitted at the site. DONIPHAN, Neb. – Hunter Howe of Platte Valley 4-H won a three-way shoot-off to win the Cornhusker Cup as overall champion of the 49th Cornhusker Trapshoot on Saturday. Howe broke 72 of 75 targets and in the handicap at 24-25 yards Saturday before prevailing in a shoot-off. His 72, combined with his 74 shot at 16 yards Friday, gave him a low overall score of 146. DONIPHAN, Neb. – Max Christiansen of Norris had a perfect day Friday. He broke all 235 targets he shot at and won two championships at the 49th Cornhusker Trapshoot. He won the 16-yard individual title and the high school team crown in the senior high competition. LINCOLN, Neb. – It should be a great weekend for fishing at the trout lake at Two Rivers State Recreation Area. Over the past few days, Grove Trout Rearing Station staff have stocked the lake with 4,750 trout. Of those, 740 were 11-inch tiger trout, 350 were 15-inch rainbow trout, and the remaining trout stocked were 11- to 12-inch rainbow trout. Spring fishing got off to a slow start at the lake. DONIPHAN, Neb. – Thursday’s opening day of the 49th Cornhusker Trapshoot came down to a duel between two Lincoln shooters. Tanner Muff of Scott Middle School won a shoot-off to win the junior high division championship. Muff and Jacob Uphoff of Mickle Middle School each hit 99 of 100 targets at 16 yards. LINCOLN, Neb. – Private landowners have until June 15 to enroll their land in the Open Fields and Waters (OFW) Program. Through OFW, landowners can earn additional income for allowing walk-in hunting, trapping and/or fishing access on their properties. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is accepting Recreational Trail Program (RTP) grant applications for fiscal year 2018 funding. The RTP is a grant program through the Federal Highway Administration that reimburses political subdivisions, such as communities, counties and natural resources districts, up to 80 percent of project costs for trail acquisition, development, renovation and support facilities. LINCOLN, Neb. – Gov. Pete Ricketts has signed into law a measure that increases liquidated damages levied against persons who violate certain Nebraska game laws by killing, possessing or selling wildlife illegally. Liquidated damages are assessed by the courts that are in addition to fines imposed for violating the game law.
