Youth Hunter Education Challenge set for Oct. 13 at Platte River SP

LINCOLN, Neb. – Young hunter education graduates are invited to test their skills in a fun, practical competition Sunday, Oct. 13 at Platte River State Park. The Youth Hunter Education Challenge offers participants the chance to hone their shooting skills and learn more about wildlife, survival skills and hunter responsibility. This free competition is for youth age 11 or older who have successfully completed hunter education and not yet graduated from high school. Proof of hunter education certification is required. …

LINCOLN, Neb. – With paddlefish snagging season set to begin Oct. 1, dangerous conditions will be occurring on the Missouri River below Gavin’s Point Dam due to high water releases. Outflows from Gavins Point Dam will be at or above 80,000 cubic feet per second for the entire month of October. Locations of some Missouri River Outdoor Expo activities will change because of high water levels

LINCOLN, Neb. – Visitors to the 15th Annual Missouri River Outdoor Expo Sept. 21-22 at Ponca State Park are advised that high water along the Missouri will affect the locations of some activities. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is now accepting scholarship applications to provide classrooms, afterschool programs, and assisted living facilities with supplies to participate in the 2019-2020 season of Project FeederWatch. Project FeederWatch is an engaging winter-long (November-April) survey of birds that visit feeders across North America. Participants count the birds they see at their feeders and submit the information to the Project FeederWatch website. Youth waterfowl hunting begins Sept. 28-29 in Zones 2 and 4, Oct. 5-6 in Zone 1 and Oct. 19-20 in Zone 3. Duck hunting zones for youth waterfowl are the same as the regular duck season.
