Arrrgggghhhhh! The Buzzing in my Head!

If you live near some of our deciduous forests in eastern Nebraska, or if you are visiting there, you right now have an opportunity to experience an amazing and rare wildlife experience.  In fact I would rank this right up there with the annual sandhill crane migration, turkeys gobbling, elk bugling, or a surface-feeding frenzy of big wipers.  This is even more amazing because it only occurs once every 17 years! The year 2015 is the year of the emergence of …

Visit Mulberry Lane

Gosh, I love to pick and eat mulberries. C’mon, who doesn’t, right? I guess it’s the Nebraska kid in me (and many of us) who like to do that! Growing up on the western edge of Gretna, NE, my buddies and I would hike the nearby woods and seek out those mulberry trees with their ripe, sweet, dark purple fruit from mid June to early July. I fondly recall the days of having purple feet, hands, lips and tongue. What a blast it was (and still is) to take …

It’s What I Do. . . .

I have a new favorite commercial that has been running on TV lately. . . . I caught a rock bass like that once.  I did not put it in the cooler, I let it go. Yes, all fishermen are liars except you and me, and sometimes I wonder about you! It is the weekend, make sure to tell some tales, some real whoppers.  Or time better spent would be to actually be on the water making up new tales! …

State Record Update, June 2015

I have a few state record applications sitting here on my desk; time to give you an update.  Let me just take ’em in order. . . . Tiger Trout Tiger trout are a brown trout X brook trout hybrid.  Tigers have never been stocked in Nebraska waters, but we have a few Pine Ridge streams where both brown trout and brook trout are present and hybridization in the wild is a possibility.  We had the first rod & reel …
