Elk Collared in North-Central Nebraska

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission recently placed tracking collars on 11 elk in north-central Nebraska. The collars provide real-time location data and help Game and Parks better determine populations. Game and Parks contracted a helicopter animal capture crew to tranquilize and place GPS tracking collars and ear tags on the animals. LINCOLN – Sandhill crane enthusiasts are invited to visit Fort Kearny State Historical Park and Recreation Area to enjoy the spring migration. The visitor center will open daily March 1-April 7 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Staff will answer questions and direct visitors to viewing areas. Spring Turkey Hunting Workshops Scheduled

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host five spring turkey hunting workshops across the state to help prepare hunters for the upcoming seasons. The workshops are March 13 in North Platte, March 15 at Ponca and Platte River state parks, March 20 in Chadron and April 8 in Lincoln. Game and Parks Relocates 26 Bighorns from Wildcat Hills to Pine Ridge

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission on Feb. 19 relocated 26 bighorn sheep from the Wildcat Hills to supplement two herds in the Pine Ridge. Game and Parks contracted a helicopter crew to capture the sheep at the Hubbard Gap region of the Wildcat Hills. Agency staff moved the sheep via livestock trailers to Fort Robinson State Park and Bighorn Wildlife Management Area, to the west and east of Crawford, respectively. Mountain Lion Unintentionally Killed in Custer County

LINCOLN – A mountain lion was unintentionally killed in a cable restraint trap near Taylor in Custer County on Feb. 16, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The mountain lion was an adult male weighing approximately 150 pounds that appeared to be in good health. Nonresident Hunting Outfitters Convicted of Taking Wildlife Illegally in Nebraska

LINCOLN – A North Carolina couple have been convicted of multiple federal game law violations in Nebraska. Jason and Britney Edney of Hendersonville, N.C., own an outfitting company that hired guides and worked for clients in Nebraska. Over four years, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission conservation officers and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service special agents uncovered hunting violations that included more than 25 instances of overbagging or hunting turkeys without permits, 29 illegally taken deer, 17 instances of failing to …

Mountain Lion Killed by Vehicle

LINCOLN – A mountain lion was killed by a vehicle on U.S. Hwy. 20 in Sioux County on Feb. 1, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The mountain lion was an adult male weighing approximately 150 pounds that appeared to be in good health. The driver contacted Game and Parks immediately after striking the animal.
