Two Deer Hunting Workshops Scheduled

LINCOLN – Prepare for the upcoming firearm deer seasons by attending one of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s two deer hunting workshops this month. The free workshops will be held Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center in Lincoln and Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chalco Hills Natural Resources Center in Omaha. Mountain Lion Harvested in Knox County

LINCOLN – A 157-pound male mountain lion was harvested on the evening of Oct. 5 in Knox County near Lewis and Clark Lake. This is the first mountain lion harvested in the Prairie Unit, which has been open since Jan. 1. Mountain lion hunting is open in the Prairie Unit until the end of the year. Rains Create Very Favorable Wetland Conditions in Rainwater Basin

LINCOLN – Recent rains have created very favorable wetland conditions in much of the Rainwater Basin as duck hunting season approaches. Ted LaGrange, wetland program manager for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, said water conditions are mostly good to excellent in the south-central Nebraska wetlands east of U.S. Highway 281. “Most of those wetlands filled with water due to above normal rainfall in late August and in September,” LaGrange said. “Generally, the portion of the Rainwater Basin west of …

Trout Family Fishing Events Scheduled Across State

LINCOLN – Young and inexperienced anglers are invited to explore the fun of fishing in October at a series of Trout Family Fishing events across Nebraska. Rods and reels, hooks, bobbers, weights and worms are all anglers will need to start catching rainbow trout. All of that equipment and bait will be loaned for free. Game and Parks Offices Will Close on Upcoming Holidays

LINCOLN – All Nebraska Game and Parks Commission offices will be closed Oct. 13 for Columbus Day and Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. The closures include Game and Parks headquarters in Lincoln, district offices in Norfolk, North Platte and Alliance, service centers in Bassett and Kearney, Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium and the Omaha office. Reminder of Change to Bowhunter Education

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters that changes in Nebraska law now require them to be certified in bowhunter education if they hunt big game with a crossbow and are ages 12 through 29. Hunters ages 12 and 29 who hunt deer, antelope, elk or bighorn sheep with bow and arrow or a crossbow must carry with them proof of certification of a bowhunter education course. Iowa Man Cited for Shooting Mountain Lion

LINCOLN – A 23-year-old Iowa man has been cited for shooting a mountain lion out of season near Crawford on the evening of Sept. 6. The man was hunting deer with archery equipment from a tree stand on Ponderosa Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Dawes County when the incident occurred. He reported shooting the lion to the Dawes County Sherriff’s Department that night.
