Deer Hunters Should Note Recent Check Station Changes

LINCOLN – Nebraska hunters should locate a check station online that they intend to use before the start of the upcoming firearm deer season. The list of check stations has changed since it was first printed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in May. Firearm deer hunters and archers harvesting deer during the Nov. 15-23 firearm season must deliver their deer to a check station no later than 1 p.m. on the day following the close of the season. …

Be Aware of Multiple Users on WMAs During Hunting Seasons

LINCOLN – Users of the state’s wildlife management areas should be aware of the presence of hunters on those areas during all hunting seasons, but especially for the Nov. 15-23 firearm deer season, when approximately 70,000 hunters will be in the field. Bird watchers, horseback riders, hikers, wildlife viewers and anyone else using those areas are encouraged to use common courtesy by being aware of hunters using the area for the safety of all. Prescribed Burns of Woodlands and Grasslands Scheduled

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct prescribed burns of woodlands and grasslands at state-owned areas as weather conditions allow. Burns are scheduled for Ponca State Park (SP), Dixon County; Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Jefferson County; and Indian Cave SP, Richardson County. The woodland low-intensity burns are designed to reduce brush and small tree densities to allow for oak tree regeneration, increase native wildflowers and enhance wildlife habitat. Game and Parks to Hold Free Deer Field Dressing Workshop

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host a field dressing and skinning workshop to help hunters get ready for the upcoming deer season. The workshop will take place on from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the Nebraska Outdoor Education Center, 4703 N. 44th St., in Lincoln. LINCOLN – Visit Ponca State Park on Nov. 8 for a day of crafts and archery. At 10 a.m., learn about the owls that live in the park while you make an ornamental pinecone owl. Hunting Accident Under Investigation

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a hunting accident that occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on Oct. 31. Three brothers were reportedly hunting turkeys when the incident occurred on private property approximately 6 miles west and 5½ miles south of Auburn. Deer Hunters Have Two Resources to Donate Venison

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters that there are two programs that support deer donation in Nebraska: Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) and the Deer Exchange. HHH pays for the processing of whole field-dressed deer that hunters donate at any HHH processor, and the Deer Exchange program allows hunters to sign-up with the exchange to find individuals who have also signed-up and want to receive venison. Pheasant Success Good Across Much of Nebraska

LINCOLN – Hunters in several areas of the state enjoyed good success during the opening weekend of Nebraska’s pheasant and quail seasons, Oct. 25-26. With the number of birds seen up throughout much of the state, prospects for success improve as hunting conditions improve. Opening-weekend temperatures were unseasonably warm and unharvested crop fields gave pheasants ample cover. Two Rivers SRA Closed for Culvert Replacement Nov. 3-4

LINCOLN – Two Rivers State Recreation Area near Venice will be closed to public access Nov. 3-4 so that a culvert may be replaced on the main road leading into the park. A Douglas County road crew will complete the project, but if weather conditions don’t allow it, the work will be done Nov. 24-25 instead.
