Mountain Lion Harvested in Dakota County

LINCOLN – An 89-pound female mountain lion was harvested on the morning of Nov. 17 in Dakota County. This is the second mountain lion harvested in the Prairie Unit, which has been open since Jan. 1. Mountain lion hunting is open in the Prairie Unit until the end of the year. All other mountain lion units are closed at this time. Game and Parks to Release Pheasants at Nine Wildlife Management Areas

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will release rooster pheasants at nine wildlife management areas in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The nine areas include: Oak Valley (Madison County), Wilkinson (Platte County), Sherman Reservoir (Sherman County), Pressey (Custer County), Branched Oak (Lancaster County), Yankee Hill (Lancaster County), Twin Oaks (Johnson County), Hickory Ridge (Johnson County), and Peru Bottoms (Nemaha County). LINCOLN – The public will have a unique opportunity for viewing birds during an event at Lake Minatare State Recreation Area on Dec. 6. Deer Hunters Should Note Recent Check Station Changes

LINCOLN – Nebraska hunters should locate a check station online that they intend to use before the start of the upcoming firearm deer season. The list of check stations has changed since it was first printed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in May. Be Aware of Multiple Users on WMAs During Hunting Seasons

LINCOLN – Users of the state’s wildlife management areas should be aware of the presence of hunters on those areas during all hunting seasons, but especially for the Nov. 15-23 firearm deer season, when approximately 70,000 hunters will be in the field. Prescribed Burns of Woodlands and Grasslands Scheduled

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct prescribed burns of woodlands and grasslands at state-owned areas as weather conditions allow. Burns are scheduled for Ponca State Park (SP), Dixon County; Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Jefferson County; and Indian Cave SP, Richardson County. The woodland low-intensity burns are designed to reduce brush and small tree densities to allow for oak tree regeneration, increase native wildflowers and enhance wildlife habitat.
