Plans Being Finalized for Road Repair at Niobrara State Park

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Department of Roads are finalizing plans for repairs to the asphalt roads within Niobrara State Park (SP). An asphalt overlay of the entire park road system – approximately 7¾ miles – is proposed. Road conditions within the park have deteriorated, and park officials have identified a road rehabilitation project as a top priority. Access to Blue Lake Temporarily Closed

LINCOLN – All access to Blue Lake in Garden County has been closed temporarily by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission because of deteriorating road conditions. Above-freezing temperatures in recent days have caused the 2.7-mile two-track trail to the lake to be difficult to pass. It has become soft and vulnerable to damage from vehicle traffic. LINCOLN – The indoor archery range at the Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center in Lincoln will close to public use because of events, competitions or holidays on Feb. 13, Feb. 20 -21, Feb. 27, March 26, and March 27. Bald Eagles Break Nest Record Again in 2015

LINCOLN – In 2015, a record 118 active bald eagle nests were documented in Nebraska by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and its partners. Bald eagles were on federal and state endangered species lists as late as 2007 and 2008, respectively. Three Positives for CWD Found in Recent Testing of Deer

LINCOLN – The presence of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Nebraska deer has spread eastward, according to findings by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The Commission conducted a CWD sampling operation in its Northeast District deer check stations during the 2015 November firearm deer season. Three samples tested positive for CWD. LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking information related to the apparent shooting of a bald eagle in northeastern Nebraska. A citizen found the dead eagle on Jan. 17 in Cedar County, approximately 3 miles southeast of Yankton, S.D. The eagle appeared to have been shot on the day it was found.
