Just a couple of news items I want to include in the ole blog today. Yes, I know these are going to be of limited interest, but there are a few anglers who will want to know. That is why I do it!
After last year’s flooding, I noted that a number of pits on our lower Platte River State Recreation areas were going to need renovations. That process is going to take some time, not all of those fisheries are going to be renovated at once. This is the beginning. . . .
Louisville Lake 1A fish renovation completed
LINCOLN, Neb. – Lake 1A at Louisville State Recreation Area has been renovated to remove rough fish, especially silver carp.
Lake 1A and Lake 1, which will be renovated the week of Sept. 13, were invaded by unwanted species during the 2019 spring flooding of the Platte River.
The 1-acre Lake 1A was treated Sept. 8 with rotenone, which is a toxicant used to eliminate fish. The lake was found to contain more than 200 silver carp of at least 15 pounds. Since these fish filter plankton from the water, they can severely limit other fish species in the lake and are difficult for anglers to catch.
Fish stockings following the renovations will include largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish.

Mulberry Bend
Lastly, we have had some boat ramp problems at Mulberry Bend on the Missouri River. If you use that ramp, you will want to know about this.
When there are some lower flows on the river this winter, we can look at alterations and repairs.
