LINCOLN, Neb. – Bring the whole family out for a fun weekend of live history reenactments Aug. 24-25 at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park.

“Rustler and Renegades: Outlaws vs. the U.S. Army out West” will feature the surgeon, blacksmith, laundress, soldiers and civilians actively portraying period activities throughout Fort Hartsuff. At 2 p.m. each day, visitors can watch Doc Middleton and the Pony Boys Gang lead a jail break, seeking to free their imprisoned leader. A night cannon firing will take place Aug. 24 at 9:30 p.m.

Hands-on activities include making hand-dipped candles and handkerchief dolls, while supplies last. Visitors can also enjoy cold root beer and peanuts free of charge while they last.

Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 3-12, and a valid Nebraska state park entry permit is required for each vehicle entering the park.

Fort Hartsuff is located 3 miles northwest of Elyria on Fort Avenue. For more information, call the park at 308-346-4715.
