Public invited to Fort Atkinson design charrette open house May 18

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host an open house in Fort Calhoun on May 18 to take public input on the design charrette for Fort Atkinson State Historical Park.

The open house will take place from 5-7 p.m. at the Fort Calhoun Fire Hall, 602 N. 14th St.

The design charrette, a planning session where citizens and stakeholders collaborate on the vision of a development project, will take place May 17 and 18. It will include interviews with stakeholders and internal staff, reviewing and visiting the site and preparing drawings and information regarding potential changes to the park and its programming. Following the charrette, the design team will host an open house so the public can review the material that was produced, ask questions and provide additional input.

After the charrette is concluded, the design team will refine the information and drawings with the input received from the public and produce a final document that can be used in future planning and potential development at Fort Atkinson. No formal presentation is planned for the open house.
