Three Summer Shooting Programs Offered at Platte River State Park

LINCOLN – Come to Platte River State Park (SP) this summer and learn or expand shooting skills with three different workshops.

Introduction to Shotguns and Trap Shooting will be held June 15 and July 13. Led by a trap coach, this workshop is designed for new and novice shooters. It will include an introduction to shotguns, trap shooting and 5-stand sporting clays.

The Rimfire Steel Plate Fun Shoot is scheduled for June 11, July 16 and Aug. 13. The entire family is invited to take part in this fun competition, in which a shooting stage is set up with five to six steel plates at distances of 20 feet to 30 yards. Equipment will be provided.

The two-day sessions of the Introduction to Civilian Marksmanship Program will be June 13 and 15, July 11 and 13, Aug. 22 and 24. Participants will learn sight picture and sight alignment, rules of competitive shooting, proper sling use, natural point of aim, and prone, sitting and standing shooting positions.

All workshops will be held at the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex. A park permit is required of every vehicle entering Platte River SP, located west of Louisville in Cass County.
