Saturday Fun Day April 23 at Ponca State Park

LINCOLN – Learn more about the wildlife of Ponca State Park during Saturday Fun Day on April 23.

The event, which is suited for all ages, focuses on education about the various animal and bird species that live in the park and along the Missouri River.

“Ponca has a diverse range of wildlife,” says event coordinator Lynn Mellick. “We have an abundance of songbirds, as well as beavers, turkeys, and raccoons, to name a few. This event is an exciting opportunity for families and individuals to experience wildlife at Ponca.”

Critter Corner is scheduled for 11 a.m. Participants will meet at the Missouri River Resource and Education Center to see, touch, and sometimes smell live critters, fur, feathers, shells, skulls and more.

The Animal Detective Session, held at 2 p.m., teaches participants how to identify clues that animals leave behind, such as tracks and scat. Participants will have the opportunity to set up a trail camera within the park to catch wildlife in action. Meet by the Riverfront Campground for this session.

Both sessions are free with the purchase of a park permit. For more information, call the park at 402-755-2284.
