Fort Atkinson Tactical Plan Public Informational Meeting Set for May 11

LINCOLN – The Fort Atkinson State Historical Park Tactical Plan will be the topic of a public informational meeting hosted by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission on May 11 in Fort Calhoun.

The goal of the plan is to implement the vision statement outlined in the plan: “To be a viable tourist destination that offers quality historical interpretation of the westward expansion of the United States and Fort Atkinson’s role in this history, which increases visitation to the Fort and the community of Fort Calhoun.”

The plan was completed with input from organizations such as the Friends of Fort Atkinson, the City of Fort Calhoun, the Washington County Historical Association, and the Fort Atkinson Foundation. These groups have a vested interest in the future of Fort Atkinson and contribute to its success.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the library of Fort Calhoun High School, 5876 County Road P43. The meeting will consist of a presentation of the plan’s goals and objectives, followed by input from the public regarding the plan.
