Fishing. . . And, It Is Good for You!

I am going to share with you something very interesting that was brought to my attention on another blog–not only is fishing a lot of fun, it is good for you!!!!  Besides the excerpts I am going to share with you, please take the time to read the entire article, FIX.com, Fishing for Wellness!

One thing I have often said, and it is echoed in the blog post I just referenced, is that fishing is meant to be a participation sport!  Sure, in our modern world you can sit in front of the TV or computer and watch other people fish (believe me, I love to do that too!), but ANYONE can participate!  In fact fishing is a great family activity because the whole family can participate together.  Fishing participation can take many forms, from a picnic lunch, cold beverage, a bucket of bait and a cane pole under some shady tree to the latest in boats, gear, artificial baits and technology, it is all fishing and it is all good!  Everyone can find some type of fishing, some level of participation and well, GO FISH!

Here are some examples of the health benefits that can be derived from fishing:

Obviously, there are some types of fishing that will provide more of a workout than others, but it is all beneficial.  Most anglers will tell you that one of the reasons we like to fish is to “get away from it all”, to get some stress relief.  Well, guess what?  Even if all you do is throw a line out and then sit in a lawn chair and relax, that is good for you too!

Not to mention that selectively harvesting some of the fish we catch and eating them, is also good for you!

On the flip side of the coin, if you take your fishing seriously, being physically fit will help you fish harder, stay mentally sharper, and catch more fish!  Which again proves that the more you fish, the more and bigger fish you will catch!

One thing is for certain, fishing is better for you than sitting behind a desk in the office all day–better call in “sick”!
