Southeast District Birding Day Set for May 13

LINCOLN – Birders of all ages are invited to join the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for Southeast District Birding Day on May 13 at Hamburg Bend Wildlife Management Area (WMA).

This event is a great opportunity to get in the field, learn a bit about birds and local resource areas, and visit with agency staff and partners.

Birders will meet at the WMA parking area at 7:30 a.m. Lunch and presentations are at 11 a.m. A mile south of Nebraska City on U.S. Highway 75, turn east on K Road and travel along K and L roads southeast before turning south on M Road for a mile. Turn south on 72 Road for a mile and then turn east on N Road and go a half mile to the parking area.

Participants should bring binoculars, cameras, field guides, insect repellant, as well as appropriate clothing and footwear for walking fields.

Birders must contact Sam Cowan by 5 p.m. on May 8 at sam.cowan@nebraska.gov or 402-228-0301 and specify if they will bring their own lunch or purchase one for $5 at the site.
