Game and Parks Plans Open House at Ash Hollow State Historical Park

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host an open house on May 13 at the Ash Hollow State Historical Park Visitors Center.

The event, which will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., will be an opportunity for members of the public to discuss possible partnerships and other ideas pertaining to the operation of Ash Hollow State Historical Park with Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners and staff members. Commissioners and staff members also will be available to answer questions about the park.

Ash Hollow, located near Lewellen, is unique among Nebraska’s state historical parks. Archaeological excavations indicate that early man used the area as much as 6,000 years ago. Many years later, the picturesque area attracted Plains Indians and pioneers. Wagon ruts from the Oregon-California trail are still visible at the park.

Artifacts from these eras will be on display during the May 13 open house. Tours of the park will also be available.

For more information, call the park at 308-778-5651.
