Oregon Trail Taking Center Stage at Ash Hollow SHP

LINCOLN – For the 22nd consecutive year, performers will take an audience back to the early days of the Oregon Trail during a pageant at Ash Hollow State Historical Park near Lewellen on June 14.

The program, “Early Emigrants on the Oregon Trail,” will be at 6:30 p.m. Performers in costume will relive stories from the diaries of pioneers who traveled west for the 2,200-mile journey in the 1800s.

Preceding the show, at 5 p.m., will be a chuck wagon dinner of roast beef, fry bread and baked beans cooked over a campfire.

The performance and dinner may be found by turning left on the first gravel road after entering the park. There is no charge for the show, but vehicles are required to have a park entry permit. The price of the meal is $10 for adults and $6 for children.

Also as part of the event, an art show in Lewellen will be open to visitors June 13-14. Visitors also are encouraged to visit other historical sites and points of interest, including the rock schoolhouse, sod house, historical grave sites and the park’s visitors’ center.
