Repairs completed on two boat ramps in northeast Nebraska parks

LINCOLN, Neb. – Boating prospects in northeast Nebraska are looking up with the completion of two state park area projects in 2020. The completion of a second boat ramp at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area’s Weigand Marina will alleviate long lines of boats waiting to put in or take out. LINCOLN, Neb. – A health alert for harmful algal blooms, also known as toxic blue-green algae, has been issued at Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County and Willow Creek Reservoir in Pierce County. Visitors to Bluestem and Willow Creek state recreation areas should avoid full-body contact activities that could lead to swallowing water, such as swimming, wading, skiing or jet skiing. Willow Creek SRA regains full functionality

LINCOLN, Neb. – Willow Creek State Recreation Area is the latest state park area to regain full operations following spring flooding. Willow Creek, located in Pierce County in northeastern Nebraska, has 101 electric camping pad sites. All electrical service has been restored to the campground. Aside from camping, the park offers opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, picnicking, hiking and biking. The state park areas are a great place to spend Father’s Day on June 16. LINCOLN – A health advisory is in effect for lakes at two Nebraska state recreation areas. During testing earlier this week, the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) detected elevated levels of toxic algae at Pawnee Lake in Lancaster County, and at Willow Creek Lake in Pierce County. Incident at Boat Ramp Claims Life of Oregon Woman

LINCOLN – An incident at a boat ramp at Willow Creek State Recreation Area near Pierce in northeast Nebraska has claimed the life of a woman. On the afternoon of July 10, emergency personnel, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission responded to a call of an unconscious 74-year-old Oakland, Ore., woman. She was transported to Faith Regional Medical Center in Norfolk, where she passed away that night. Witnesses reported the woman was boating with …
