Line to Anglers: Don’t Hook, Tangle Wildlife!

Discarded fishing equipment such as abandoned line, hooks, weights, etc. continues to be a major problem for the environment and a major threat to an array of wildlife in and around the water. It can maim and kill birds and other wildlife! Look what happened to this cormorant! Just yesterday at Carter Lake in northeast Omaha, avid birder Jim Ducey of Omaha, NE brought to my attention yet another graphic incident involving birds getting tangled up with discarded fishing tackle. The Voice of Teddy Roosevelt

I perform a wide variety of duties here at the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and honestly love every challenging minute of it! A couple weeks ago Ralph Wall who does a fantastic job of shooting video and making video productions for the agency, I might add, hit me up to be the voice of one of our country’s first conservation-minded presidents — Theodore Roosevelt. “Say what? Are you serious, Ralph?” was my response to his asking me to be the …

See Spring Waterfowl Migration near Metro Area

If you live in or around the Omaha-metro area, you don’t have to travel very far to experience the spring migration of waterfowl. I took these shots today along the Elkhorn and Platte Rivers in western Douglas and Sarpy Counties. The rivers were busy places with ducks and geese here and there! The great outdoors of Nebraska is about …

WHY I THOROUGHLY ENJOY THE LATE FIREARM DEER SEASON

It’s only an excuse for me to experience winter, watch wildlife, enjoy the scenery and shoot photos with a new camera … Really it is … I am referring to Nebraska’s Late Firearm Deer Hunting Season. I thoroughly enjoy it! The photos from my Saunders County expedition will sum up why. Of course, getting an antlerless deer (a whitetail doe) in the late firearm season is merely a bonus for me!
