LINCOLN, Neb. – Catchable-size rainbow trout are being stocked in city ponds, park lakes, and other waters across the state by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. These stockings will enhance fishing opportunities this early spring. Trout fishing is a great way to introduce children to fishing because simple and inexpensive equipment may be used. LINCOLN – Enjoy learning more about leather at a presentation by Tandy Leather at Two Rivers State Recreation Area (SRA) on Aug. 20. Presenters will talk about the various uses for leather and help participants make a cowhide bookmark to take home. Family Activities Planned Throughout July at Two Rivers SRA

LINCOLN – A series of fun and educational activities for all ages is scheduled throughout July at Two Rivers State Recreation Area. Fun Days at Two Rivers are scheduled for July 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 22-24 and 30-31. Each fun day will include different family activities, including fishing clinics, nature hikes, naturalist programs, bird watching, and workshops on such things as constellations, pollinators, making leather goods, and tree identification. Several State Recreation Areas Affected by High Water

LINCOLN – Heavy spring rains have led to soggy conditions at three state recreation areas in Nebraska. Louisville, Two Rivers and Dead Timber state recreation areas, all of which are adjacent to rivers, have all been affected by high water levels. Users should be cautioned that access to area roads, campgrounds, toilets and other facilities could be limited. Two Rivers Trout Lake to Open March 12

LINCOLN – The trout lake at Two Rivers State Recreation Area (SRA) will open for fishing on March 12. This year, anglers will be able to fish for larger trout, as well as an additional species of trout. A total of 7,500 rainbow trout have been stocked in time for opening day, of which 500 fish are 16 inches in length and the remainder are 11½ inches. Water Over Roads Temporarily Closes Two Rivers SRA

LINCOLN – A typical spring rise of the Platte River has resulted in minor lowland flooding and the temporary closure of Two Rivers State Recreation Area (SRA) in Douglas County. Two people in a camper were escorted out of the park on the morning of Jan. 27 when an ice jam sent water and chunks of ice over the river bank, making roads impassable. Two Rivers SRA Closed for Culvert Replacement Nov. 3-4

LINCOLN – Two Rivers State Recreation Area near Venice will be closed to public access Nov. 3-4 so that a culvert may be replaced on the main road leading into the park. A Douglas County road crew will complete the project, but if weather conditions don’t allow it, the work will be done Nov. 24-25 instead.

Fish-Eating Birds Hamper Two Rivers Trout Fishing

LINCOLN, Neb. – Trout fishing success at Two Rivers State Recreation Area (SRA) Lake No. 5 has significantly slowed over the past several weeks because of predation by cormorants and pelicans. Because of poor catch rates, the trout tag requirement for fishing that lake has been lifted for the remainder of the 2013 season.
