Trenton man injured in Swanson Reservoir boating accident

LINCOLN, Neb. – A 46-year-old Trenton man was hospitalized with injuries following a boating accident Nov. 19 on Swanson Reservoir in Hitchcock County. Sometime in the afternoon, the victim, the sole occupant other than a dog, apparently was ejected from his boat. The running boat began circling. Another boater rescued the man from the water and took him to the boat ramp to be treated by emergency personnel. The victim, who sustained injuries from the propeller, was flown by helicopter …

Medicine Creek’s Trail 4 boat ramp closed during irrigation releases

LINCOLN, Neb. – Medicine Creek Reservoir’s Trail 4 boat ramp has been closed temporarily due to receding water from irrigation releases. The ramp should be back in service in September or October, depending on inflows back into the Frontier County reservoir after releases are shut down. “The closing of this ramp is typical for this time of year with irrigation releases from the reservoir,” said Aric Riggins, southwest regional park superintendent for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. “It happens …

One Boat Ramp Available at Swanson Reservoir

LINCOLN – Swanson Reservoir in Hitchcock County has one operating boat ramp because of the low lake level due to drought and other factors. This ramp is located at Trail 3 in the northeast corner of the reservoir. While Nebraska Game and Parks Commission personnel have amended the lake bed and ramp with crushed concrete and limestone, boaters are encouraged to beware of underwater hazards and to use four-wheel drive vehicles.
