River access for paddlers closed at lower Platte River park areas

LINCOLN, Neb. – River access for kayaks and canoes remains closed for safety reasons at Platte River State Park, Schramm Park State Recreation Area and Louisville State Recreation Area, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The lower Platte River along these park areas in Sarpy and Cass counties is experiencing above-normal flows.

Commission to consider fees for Schramm Education Center

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider proposed user fees for the new Schramm Education Center when it meets Jan. 18 in Lincoln. Schramm Education Center, built on the site of the former Aksarben Aquarium within Schramm Park State Recreation Area in Sarpy County, will be an interactive, state-of-the-art nature center featuring the state’s river, pond and lake systems. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is offering special antlerless deer hunting opportunities within Eugene T. Mahoney and Platte River state parks (SP), as well as Schramm Park State Recreation Area (SRA). Successful applicants will be issued a special access permit that allows them to hunt antlerless deer in designated areas of a park on certain dates, using specific equipment. Successful applicants and interested alternates must attend an orientation session in order to receive the access permit. …

On the Platte Close to Home

This past week, Game & Parks friends and I enjoyed kayaking and canoeing the Platte River just south/southwest of the Omaha-metro area and sure had a nice trip. Southeast District Birding Day Set for May 15

LINCOLN, Neb. – The public is invited to join the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for the Southeast District Birding Day on May 15 at Schramm Park State Recreation Area. This free day of birding will begin at 7:30 at Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium, located 7 miles south of Gretna on Nebraska Highway 31.
