State Record Update, July 2017

StateRecordTriploidCrappieRodReelApril2017

There has not been a lot of activity on the state record front, but I have a couple of fish and a couple of stories to share with you: Rod & Reel The first goes way back to April; the application literally came in right after I cleared the last batch of state record applications.  So, Brent Stephens of Kearney believes that we forgot all about his state record catch.  Sorry, Brent. I have told you about the “triploid” crappie …

State Record Summary, 2016

StateRecordArcheryWiperOct2016

At the end of each year I like to look back at the state record fish that were certified; kind of a “state record annual report”.  It is time to do that again. . . . Rod & Reel Yellow Bullhead We have had a run on state record Yellow Bullheads in …

State Record Paddlefish Snagged by Malcolm Man

LINCOLN – A Malcolm, Neb., man has set a state fish record for the largest paddlefish caught by rod and reel. The record was certified by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Tom Keller snagged a 113-pound, 4-ounce paddlefish on Oct. 9 while fishing the Gavins Point Dam tailwaters of the Missouri River in northeast Nebraska. The fish measured 49.75 inches in length. That fish broke the previous state record of 107 pounds, 12 ounces set in 2011. Other fish …

State Record Update, June 2015

I have a few state record applications sitting here on my desk; time to give you an update.  Let me just take ’em in order. . . . Tiger Trout Tiger trout are a brown trout X brook trout hybrid.  Tigers have never been stocked in Nebraska waters, but we have a few Pine Ridge streams where both brown trout and brook trout are present and hybridization in the wild is a possibility.  We had the first rod & reel …
