Bushcraft

Bushcaft. Have you heard the term? If run in outdoor circles like I do you probably have. Do you know what it means? A Season of Firsts

I’ve always said the outdoor world presents many different twists and turns, and that’s what makes it so intriguing! I compare entering the outdoor world anytime to going out on that first date: You’re excited, you’re nervous, you’re not wanting to forget anything, you’re probably overdressed and you’re wondering what eventualities might take place. Don’t Be a Firebug!

We’ve had and continue to have such extremely dry, windy conditions in Nebraska’s outdoor scene. A number wildfires (grass fires, brush fires, etc.) have unfortunately already taken place this spring! It’s critical to not be a firebug in our great outdoors! In other words, you don’t want you to be the person who is responsible for starting a wildfire when you’re having fun this spring camping, backpacking,  picnicking, fishing, turkey hunting, morel mushroom picking, etc. Many folks I know believe that lightning starts most wildfires. In fact, on …

Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk

With reference to my job as a conservation agency public information officer and participating in outdoor activities, I’ve always held myself to this motto: “If you’re gonna talk about it, you darn well better do it or have done it!” It should be noted though, if the truth be told, that I thoroughly enjoy a myriad of outdoor activities here in the Cornhusker State (you regular readers of my blog posts know this!). Time spent outdoors in the field is …
