LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is looking to add more hunting and fishing access opportunities through its Open Fields and Waters Program. Landowners are encouraged to consider allowing public, walk-in access on their property for hunting or fishing through the program. In exchange, landowners receive per-acre annual payments and liability protection through the Nebraska Recreational Liability Act. Grant will help expand public access opportunities on Nebraska’s private lands

LINCOLN, Neb. – Public access opportunities for hunting and fishing on private lands will be expanded thanks to a grant awarded to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The $3 million grant was awarded through the 2020 Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program (VPA-HIP). In Nebraska, VPA-HIP funding, along with matching funds from the Pittman-Robertson Act (federal excise tax on guns and ammunition), habitat stamp sales, and contributions from other conservation organizations, are used to fund the Open Fields …

Hudson Lake back open to ice-fishing

LINCOLN, Neb. – Hudson Lake in Cherry County has reopened to ice-fishing. Hudson Lake, which is about 24 miles southwest of Valentine, is available for public recreation through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Open Fields and Waters Program. The lake is open to ice-fishing until March 1, 2020. Hudson Lake had been temporarily closed because of weather-related deteriorating road conditions.

Through OFW, landowners can earn additional income for allowing walk-in hunting, trapping and/or fishing access on their properties. LINCOLN – Prospects look good for Nebraska’s pheasant, quail and partridge hunting season, which opens Oct. 29. Conditions for upland birds are better than in recent years, and pheasant and quail abundance in Nebraska this year is higher than the five-year average over most of the state.
